Balance is one of the most important factors in your life to keep you healthy as you age. Being able to catch yourself when you trip will prevent you from falling and having further injuries. So, what is balance really? Is it just standing on one foot, touching your head and rubbing your belly? Well kind of, but it is also a bit more complex than that. Balance consists of three systems: Your vision (optical system), your inner ear (vestibular center) and your proprioception (knowing where your body is in space). Your physical therapist will take you through a variety of different tasks specifically focused to challenge each of these three systems. The end goal is getting you back to doing what you love whether that is going for a walk or competing at high levels of sport.
