We know major surgeries can be scary. We're here to help!

What first steps should I take?

  • Schedule a pre-op PT appointment at least 4 weeks prior to your surgical date to get pre-surgical range of motion measurements and review your home program
  • Schedule your post-op PT appointments 2 times per week for 6 weeks STARTING 2 WEEKS AFTER your surgery

What should I be doing before my surgery?

The best post operative results are achieved by putting in the work before surgery!
  • Bike
  • Heel slides
  • Straight leg raises
  • Bridges
  • Side lying leg raises
  • Hip extensions
  • Hamstring curls
  • Calf raises
  • Calf stretches
  • Hamstring stretches
  • Quadriceps stretches
  • Balance

What should I expect after surgery?

  • The first 36 hours are easy
  • Pain will spike between hours 36-48 once the pain ball is empty
    • When the pain ball is empty pull it out and throw away
  • Days 3, 4 and 5 are NOT going to be a walk in the park

What do I do when I get home?

full post-op program
  • As best you can, you will have exercise starting on day 1! These will last 8 MINUTES and should be performed EVERY HOUR from 9am-7pm.

  • ICING: You should be icing at least 40 minutes/hour every waking hour. While doing this, please have your leg elevated! This means your toes should be above your nose.
  • Ambulate once an hour for about 5 minutes. Usually around the house will suffice it even to and from the bathroom.
